School Council Minutes 2014

1. School Council Minutes – Friday 26th September 2014

Present: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristan, Holy, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Freddie, Emily & Mrs Messer.

All children congratulated on their achievement of being elected for this year’s school council. Well done!

New badges have been ordered so all children will have a shield one very soon! Councillors reminded to wear these at all times in school.

Children informed about a county firework safety poster competition in which we were successful last year. Majority vote in favour of entering this again this year.

School house system – councillors made aware of the work completed by last years’ councillors to set up a school house system. House names as follows; maple, birch, mulberry and oak. Each child through the school to be put in 1 house and earn house points. House points can be earned from teachers & staff for work / behaviour / attitude. Joseph and Tristian will be this term’s house point collectors and will do this on a Friday.

Next week: ideas from classes / notebooks given out / ideas for film club / chair and vice elected.

2. School Council Minutes – Friday 3rd October 2014

Present: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristan, Holy, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Freddie & Mrs Messer.
Apologies: Emily

Chair and Vice elected by democratic vote. Children to put themselves forward: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristan, Holy, Billy. Toby = Chair Gabe = Vice Chair and Tansy and Tristan to assist.

School council note books given out to each class and explained how to be used, by Mrs Messer. Gabe and Toby to report to year 1 to get their views & opinions.

Children asked if they would like to get involved with anti-bullying week again & hold a badge competition to raise awareness – very keen with a unanimous vote to yes!

All councillors asked to go back to classes and ask their peers about ideas for film club; as requested by SLu. Also to ask their classes for any issues/ideas they would like us to discuss in the next few meetings.

3. School Council Minutes – Friday 10th October 2014

Shared and feedback film club ideas – give to Mrs Lushey

Ideas and suggestions from classes shared but not discussed in detail at this stage. Ideas included; extending the play equipment or a Wendy house, slide & zip-wire (!), possibly not having a rota to play on it, more out of school trips, ipads for children to use, more fundraising and basket ball hoops/court.

Can the children watch each other’s harvest celebrations?

4. School Council Minutes – Friday 17th October 2014

Present: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristan, Holly, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Emily, Freddie & Mrs Messer.

New badges given out to those without them.

M.E fundraising idea discussed to raise awareness of M.E as some of our parents at school are sufferers. Majority vote for getting involved with this. PJ/teddy day was decided on for a donation of 50p per child. Mrs Messer to ask Mr Goldsworthy a date for this.

An idea has come forward from a pupil about a Halloween cake sale – it was agreed that we are a bit short on time for Halloween but we do very much like the idea of themed cake sale sin the future. Could this child’s class do a pumpkin carving homework competition? Years 6’s to ask teacher.

After half term: preparations need to begin for Anti-Bullying week.

5. School Council Minutes – Friday 24th October 2014

Present: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristian, Holy, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Freddie, Emily & Mrs Messer.

M.E. / Pyjama day – Dec looking very busy. The children agreed to do this day in January to ensure as many people take part as possible.

Firework poster competition – finalists announced and have been invited to Oxford the first week of term 2. We are very proud – and will keep our fingers crossed!

Councillors asked to go back to class and tell their classes that a suggestion box has been added to the school council display – only to be used when children haven’t been able to find a councillor and sensible suggestions only please. Gabe and Toby to check the box weekly.

Holly mentioned the need for bigger cloakrooms – I explained that as Adderbury continues to grow the school might one day need to expand too. This would then be the time to make cloakrooms bigger. It was fully explained that this might take a long time!

All councillors thanked for their efforts and enthusiasm in term 1.

6. School Council Minutes – Friday 14th November 2014

Present: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristan, Holy, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Freddie, Emily & Mrs Messer.

Children asked to go back to classes and ask which charities the school would like to give this year’s KS1 Xmas play donations to.

All councillors were prepared and spoken to about next week’s Anti-Bullying assembly by Mrs Messer. (The meeting was spent rehearsing for this.)

Gabe and Toby met with Mrs Messer after the meeting to go through an agenda for the upcoming governors meeting next week and to check permission was given for them to attend.

7. School Council Minutes – Monday 17th November 2014

Present: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristan, Holy, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Freddie, Emily & Mrs Messer.

Today was spent running through today’s anti-bullying assembly ensuring all councillors felt confident to execute this.

8. School Council Minutes – Friday 28th November 2014

Present: Toby, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristian, Holy, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Freddie, Emily & Mrs Messer.

Children spent the time judging the Anti-Bullying competition entries. Entries were shortlisted and then the winning design democratically voted for – Darcey Layton. This will be announced in the next whole school assembly.

Jeremy Finch, Chair of Governors, joined us and shared a letter from the Governing body thanking Toby and Gabriel for attending the Governors meeting. He also presented a cheque for £50 to the school council!

9. School Council Minutes – Thursday 11th December 2014

Present:, Gabriel, Tansy, Tristan, Holy, Billy, Joseph, Daisy, Freddie, Emily & Mrs Messer.

Mrs Messer congratulated all the councillors for their hard work during terms 1 and 2.

Mrs Messer will create the Anti Bullying badges over Christmas and get them delivered to school. We will need to think about the price of them and when to sell to the rest of the school. Darcey Layton was very pleased to be announced as winner in Monday’s assembly!
