Welcome to Year 1 Class Page
This week we have made a fantastic start to our imaginary sea creatures and making them out of clay. We have used a pinch pot method.
We had a great trip to Deddington school for our Multi Skills event.
We loved our trip to Swanage! Look at all the fun we had swimming, playing in rock pools, building sandcastles and lots more.
The children have really enjoyed music this term. They created storm music first with their bodies and then with musical instruments.

The children really enjoyed participating in our dinosaur day.
The children really enjoyed making dens and worked well as a team.
We then went on a dinosaur egg hunt- we had to be very quiet so we didn’t scare the dinosaurs away.
In the afternoon we were really lucky and had a visit from Fred the Tortoise.
The children also completed some fantastic homework projects on their own dinosaurs. I really enjoyed listening to all there imaginative ideas.
We have been continuing to work hard in Year 1 over the last couple of weeks. We have been so busy looking at dinosaurs and had an amazing time at the Natural History Museum in Oxford.
The children had a great time for World Book Day completing lots of book and book character work. They looked amazing in their costumes.
Wicked Witch and Dorothy! (I hope she hasn’t taken Toto).
Where’s Wally? He must be in Year 1.
Cinderella and her pumpkin soon to be a carriage.
Look at all these Harry Potter’s! We must be reading it as a class.
Winnie the Witch Oompa Loompa
We have had a really busy start to the term already and the children are already enjoying their new topic of Dinosaurs.
The children had a go at looking for dinosaur bones. They looked for dinosaur fact and fiction that were written on them. They then decided as a class if they thought it was true or false. They will find out during the topic if there ideas were right.
We have also made our own dinosaur fossils using salt dough.
We have also looked at how to make stories more interesting. We were given a flanimal (based on a book series by Ricky Gervais) and told to write a description of the character using adjectives.
Look at the children’s amazing work of The Great Fire of London now on display in the classroom. They worked so hard on this topic and really enjoyed it.
We have been working really hard in Year 1 this term learning all about ‘Bright Lights Big City’. The children have looked at London and have been learning about The Great Fire of London.
Here are just a few of the amazing pieces of work the children produced.

The children have also enjoyed an amazing afternoon tea with the Queen where the children made their own sandwiches and decorated their own cupcakes. They all looked very smart in order to meet her.
Before Christmas the children worked really hard writing their own stories on Jack and the Beanstalk. They changed to their own versions of what Jack saw at the top of the Beanstalk. We had everything from Storm troopers to magical gardens. You can see their beautiful work displayed in the Year 1 classroom.

We have had a fantastic first term in Year 1 exploring and finding out information about Space. We started the year exploring our crash site trying to find out what had happened. We soon found out an alien had crashed on the school site. The children enjoyed finding evidence and asking members of staff questions about what had happened.
We moved on to finding out about the famous astronauts Tim Peake and Neil Armstrong. We found out lots of information about the planets and created our own planet fact files and looked at Non-Fiction books.
We finished off our topic by looking at the story ‘Aliens in Underpants Save the World’. We created our own paintings of aliens in Spaceships and designed our own underpants to give to the aliens to say thank you for saving the world. We even had some very lovely Mr Nibbles underpants! You can see their fantastic work along the Year 1 and 2 corridor.
